September 12: A Word in Season

- Education Sunday is a national day of prayer and celebration for everyone involved in the world of education. For more than 100 years there has been an annual recognition of Education Sunday in England and Wales (traditionally on the ninth Sunday before Easter). However since 2016 it has moved to a fixed date in September.

Pray for Schools is one of the organisations that share resources for this day. Take a look at their website...

Churches Together in England also provide a large number of resources. Education Sunday is an opportunity to remember and give thanks for all those who teach, learn and support in schools, colleges, and universities.

Resources from CTE include an introduction to the theme, written by Revd Dr Hugh Osgood; a sermon, written by a previous finalist in the Sermon of the Year competition, Jan Thompson; a commissioning prayer, an outline for all-age worship, suggestions for hymns and songs, and a new song written specially for Education Sunday by URC Minister, Revd Anne Sardeson.
